I'm Speaking @ Latina Lifestyle Bloggers Conference

I'm so excited to be a speaker at The Latina Lifestyle Bloggers National Conference & Blogger Junket in Los Angeles this week. I'm a panelist on The Ethics of Blogging/Creating a Blogger Best Practices/Guide along with Jose Ullua, The Latino Cyber Guy and blogger Margo Porras.

When I was contacted by the Ana Lydia Monaco, founder and PR pro, I knew I had to participate. This is their second series of lifestyle-focused conferences for Latina Bloggers. The intimate conference hosts no more than 40 bloggers and their Blogger Junket gives them the opportunity to have one-on-ones with agency reps to discuss future collaborations.

Blogging While Brown, is my first love, but I love attending other conferences. It gives me the opportunity to hang out with bloggers, who are some of the most awesome people on earth, and to learn new things. Every conference is different from the moms at Blissdom to the massiveness of SXSW and I always learn something new on both the blogging and business sides.

As a crafty sister one thing in particular about the #LALLBlog Conference that got me super excited was a photo tweeted by Ana Lydia, @LatinaPRpro. The Crafty Chica and iLove to Create have been so kind as to provide the crafting supplies for attendee vision books. All I can say is I hope speakers get to participate as well :)

Sewing Summit 2012

Sewing Summit combines 2 of my favorite things: sewing and social media. Sewing Summit is a conference for sewing bloggers.
"A cross between a traditional sewing retreat & a blogging conference – Sewing Summit is the only event of its kind. Join us for a weekend of skill-building, networking, laughing & reconnecting with friends – both old & new!" Sewing Summit Website
The conference was founded in 2010 by bloggers Amy Ellis and Erin Singleton. Their first conference was attended by over 200 sewists.

I'm just getting into the sewing (and all things crafty) blog game and I'm thinking about attending this fall. I've never been to Utah and I'd love to go. Attending Sundance is on my bucket list, but until then I'm making plans to be in Salt Lake City this fall.

My Journey to Blogging Me

I started blogging in 2006 as a contributor on a friend’s blog. It started out as fun but it soon took on a life of its’ own. What was once fun banter between my new found blog friends and I turned into a demanding and time consuming effort leaving me hating my laptop. Not having the heart to tell my friend I wanted out I soldiered on. When the blog shut down I was relieved. A few months passed and I started to miss blogging. I missed the writing and the community, but I refused to start my own blog for fear of creating the monster again.

Enter another girlfriend who created a blog and a burgeoning community and I signed on right away. The great thing about this time around was that we were doing it just for fun. We posted whenever we wanted and on a host of random topics. We blogged about faith, fashion, cooking, etiquette, pop culture and even music.

Random blogging was fun but soon the emails came; people wanting to contribute, businesses wanting to collaborate and readers inquiring about meetups. For a minute I resisted but something in me wanted to build something that was more than just an online community. I wanted us to take what we were doing online and make it into something tangible. I ran it by my girlfriend and she agreed.

We started responding to emails and I started planning a trip for our readers. The readers were excited. I was excited, my girlfriend not so much. Everything soon dissolved and I was left with all of this energy and wanting to create something in the digital space but didn’t know where to go.

Right before everything dissolved I attended Blogging While Brown and my journey on the other side of social media began. Working as a conference planner I’ve seen the good, the bad and the ugly of social media. It has all been and continues to be a blessing and I have learned invaluable lessons.

After 3 years of working behind the scenes I’m finally ready to start my own blog. I’m ready to add my contribution to the digital space by creating engaging content that will foster my work offline.

Finally I feel comfortable blogging about and for me and I have never been happier. I’m ready to carve out my own little corner of the blogosphere and I hope that you will join me.
